about

Where Is The Vale? And what did they see there?

The Vale is a day's walk from the Iris, through abandoned pastures where dead eucalypt stags stand watch. Bleached white bones, sentinels of the plateau with metal collars more rust than shine. Orphaned fence posts swing lazily from barbed wire when the wind swings south west.

Half a day from the Iris, the old summer pastures give way to rocky grasslands that climb steeply to Bleak Tor, and when the fog clears you see it: far below, a wide cleft between the hills ringed with a dark line of rainforest. A sleepy river winds northeast through the yellowing heath and widens out into a lake. Waters deep and dark, and rumours that you can never reach the lake bed.

--

What did they see? They saw decay and descent. A fall through the world, and the endless.
