I have heard to the east of the mountain, through trackless but sparse forest, is a coastline of white sandy beaches, granite erratics deposited by a long forgotten ice age, and wild acidic seas. the places between the long stretches of sand are sheets of bare rock, punctuated with tidal pools and scarred with rills. the rock has a strange hue, somewhere between blue and yellow, or pink when the mourning sun is seen. it seems to shift and what had seemed to be a deep bottle green would next moment appear a mottled and muted yellow. this I have attributed to the presence of crusts of lichen that cover much of the rock sheets, that when scraped from the surface carefully with a knife, makes a low whistling hiss.

more investigation is required. fortunately I have company and a large stack of stone papered notebooks. with quill and charcoal, I will share these mysteries.
